One-day 'Taster' workshops in Buddhist Insight Meditation

These one-day workshops are for those who wish to have
a basic understanding
and initial experience
of traditional Buddhist
Insight Meditation.

 

 


Each workshop includes some cultural background information plus a theoretical overview of the Noble Eightfold path and how meditation is a part of that. There is also instruction for and practice in walking and sitting meditation with feedback.

 

 

 

Expected dates

 

for one-day Taster courses

in Buddhist Insight Meditation

(also called Vipassana)

for September to December 2022

 


Wednesdays, Thursdays or Fridays
from 10 am to about 4 pm.

 

Note: Taster courses can sometimes be arranged
by request.

September 1 (Thursday) and September 29 (Thurs.)

October

October 12 (Wednesday) and October 21 (Friday)

November

November 3 (Thursday) and November 24 (Thurs.)

December

December 16 (Friday) and December 22 (Thursday)

Course fees

    4,000 Baht per person for small groups
    (2 – 4 persons) for sessions
    on scheduled dates.

    For workshops set up outside scheduled dates or for individuals, the rate is also 4,000 Baht per person.

    This includes snacks and printed materials.

    The book is 50 Baht.

 

 


One-day 'Taster' sessions

Participants will practise standing, walking and sitting meditation and have the opportunity
to ask questions about the practice and their personal experience of it.

 

 

 

Timetable

These courses are partly based on what the participants want to know,
although there are certain essential points that will definitely be included.
As a result the schedule is somewhat flexible.

 

Getting to know you

Short chanting

Discussion/presentation: How Insight meditation fits into Buddhist Bhavana
(mental development) and how Concentration-based meditation differs from
concentration-with-Sati-based meditation (Mindfulness)

4 main formal positions and break

Demonstration and try out of walking meditation + feedback

12.00 - 1.30 Lunch in a nearby food or coffee shop

Short Dhamma talk and question time and break

Walking practice followed by sitting practice plus feedback (sorb arom) and break

Walking practice followed by sitting practice plus feedback (sorb arom)

 

The workshop ends between 4.00 and 4.30 pm

 

 

 

 

Additional information

 

Participants should be in good health and will normally be over 18 years old.

Meditators should wear comfortable, conservative clothing. The meditation room is
air-conditioned, so you may need a sweater or a shawl.

Coffee, tea and soft drinks are provided but you will need to pay for your lunch

 

Note: Accommodation is not available at the House of Dhamma but a list of nearby,
reasonably-priced hotels and hostels, some in walking distance, is available on request.
